Hiking trail through the Schwarzach Gorge
The Albrecht-Frister Trail follows the Schwarzach through the Schwarzach Gorge to the Brückkanal. The necessary boardwalks and bridges are in place along the route. The trail has borne its name since 2020. Its route thus connects the Schwarzach Gorge with the striking canal structure, with the river landscape at the heart of the hike.
The Schwarzach Gorge south of Schwarzenbruck is close to the town. It is a nature reserve and a habitat for endangered species. The structure is 17 metres high, 90 metres long and 6.2 metres wide. These dimensions give the crossing a clear sense of scale: here, the canal does not run alongside the gorge, but over it.
The towpath along the Ludwig–Danube–Main Canal is also well used by cyclists and walkers. The 44 kilometres refer to this tour; it is not the same as the Albrecht-Frister Trail.
Castles, church and local history
Faberschloss was built between 1883 and 1885 by pencil manufacturer Lothar von Faber and his wife Ottilie, from Stein. This two-storey manor house in the Neo-Renaissance style has a tall, soaring round tower. Petz’sches Schloss offers a much older historical connection: it was built in 1562 on the site of a castle that had probably stood there before the 15th century. Together, the two buildings offer different perspectives on Schwarzenbruck’s history.
The Martin Luther Church also offers a specific detail that sheds light on local history: its pulpit and baptismal font are made of Weser sandstone. If you are interested in craftsmanship and religious furnishings, you can focus on these two elements alongside the castles.
