Blossersberg: Water Experiences and Listed Heritage

Blossersberg combines the character of the Viechtach district with water experiences at Höllensteinsee, hiking trails along the Schwarzer Regen and remarkable traces of history. Höllensteinsee and Schwarzer Regen

Höllensteinsee was created between 1923 and 1926 through the construction of the Höllenstein power station. The Schwarzer Regen was dammed over a length of 5.6 kilometres to generate electricity. Today, boat tours are offered on Höllensteinsee amid the surrounding woodland. This allows you to combine an outing on the water with views of the landscape, without having to follow a fixed schedule for the day.

Fishing is also possible on Höllensteinsee from May to November. Fishing permits for the Schwarzer Regen from the Rugenmühl Bridge to the dam at Höllensteinsee are available, among other places, from the Viechtach Tourist Information Office. A valid annual fishing licence is required for this. You should take this regulation into account when planning if fishing is one of your travel interests.

Hiking trails for different types of holiday days

For a longer tour, the 13-kilometre, moderately difficult Viechtach–Neunußberg circular hiking trail with red marker number 4 is a good option. On the way back, it passes through the Blossersberg district and offers another beautiful view of Viechtach there. The route is therefore a specific option for an active outing in which the landscape and the town become part of the same hike.

A shorter alternative is the “Short Loop to the Schwarzer Regen”. The leisurely loop is around 6 kilometres long and follows the Schwarzer Regen near Viechtach. It can be reached by public transport. The trail leads to the road to Blossersberg and then back to the starting point at Viechtach railway station via Bahnhofstraße. Depending on the desired route length, you can therefore choose between an extended hiking loop and a shorter outing when planning your accommodation.

Historical traces in Blossersberg

A particular highlight is the listed property at Moosleuthen 7. It is a residential stable house of the Waldlerhaus type with a barn adjoining at a right angle. A former isolated farmstead in the Viechtach district of Blossersberg, which is also listed, is located at the same address. For visitors interested in culture, this site offers an insight into the historic architectural and settlement structure.

The local gastronomy also has historical connections. The origins of an inn at the point where Viechtach meets the present-day Blossersberg district can be traced back to the 19th century. The historic Blossersberg cellar had a small hall where weddings were celebrated and plays were performed. On the Blossersberg side of the Schwarzer Regen, there were also historic storage cellars belonging to Viechtach breweries and inns, including the cellars of Kreutzberger and Schmaus.
