These groups of objects make the theme tangible: pictures, medals and rosaries convey different forms of popular religious culture. In addition, the Baroque furnishings in Hergensweiler are considered among the best-preserved in the district of Lindau. The museum and the Baroque furnishings offer two distinct points of interest for culture enthusiasts: a specialized collection and a group of furnishings noted for their state of preservation.
More to Explore in the Wider Lindau Destination
Those who look beyond the village to the wider Lindau destination will find other, clearly distinct highlights. Lindau’s New Lighthouse is 33 metres high and can be reached by climbing 139 steps. Built in 1380, the Thieves’ Tower on Lindau Island long marked the western end of the town fortifications. In Maierhöfen, the sculpture trail adds art in the form of a circular route to these historical themes: it is about 5 kilometres long and features 17 sculptures and 12 text panels. Artists created the works at a symposium and permanently donated them to Maierhöfen for display.
The nature experience in the wider Lindau destination is also different: in the Eistobel nature reserve, water from the Obere Argen plunges downhill over several waterfalls along a 3-kilometre hiking trail. A visitor pavilion provides information before guests descend into the gorge. These examples introduce a different set of themes from Hergensweiler’s own orchards, nature and museum.
