Wehr can be discovered on several levels: legends from the Wehr Valley, the history of the textile industry and views of the karst landscape of the eastern Dinkelberg each have their own appeal. Legends and landscape at Schlössle
Around the ruins of Werrach Castle—also known locally as “Schlössle”—the legends trail presents tales from the Wehr Valley on 13 large, brightly coloured steel reliefs. The trail draws attention to traditional stories; from the pavilion at the castle ruins, you can look out over Wehr and the karst landscape of the eastern Dinkelberg. The ruins thus offer two different perspectives side by side: the stories of the valley and views of the landscape. Guided tours and theatrical performances along the legends trail are also offered by the City of Wehr’s Cultural and Tourism Office. Textile history and the town museum
The Textile Museum in Wehr presents the history of BRENNET GmbH, its employees and the Denk family across more than 1,000 m². Original machines, tools and textiles are displayed alongside models, pattern books and historical photographs; these exhibits illustrate how people lived and worked in the past. The museum also explores the development of the South Baden textile industry since the 18th century. Its scope ranges from the company and family to a regional industrial sector—a combination for anyone interested in the history of work and industry.
The Wehr Town Museum, located at the town hall, offers a historical walking tour and a gallery space for changing exhibitions. This gives it a different focus from the Textile Museum: the emphasis here is on the town’s history and exhibitions, while the other museum focuses on the textile industry and its history. A longer circular route as a day plan of its own
If you would like to plan a longer walk, consider the “Rheinliebe: Along the Rhine Riverside Path” circular route. It is listed as 15 km long, with a walking time of four hours.
