The Albsteig passes through Dachsberg
The Albsteig Schwarzwald has been a premium hiking trail since 2017. It runs from the mouth of the Alb near Albbruck to its source at Feldberg, climbing up to Dachsberg along the way. From there, you can enjoy fantastic views.
Mining history on foot and in the museum
The mining trail explores former mining sites along a route about seven kilometres long. You can start at the Mineral Museum in Urberg or at the town hall in Wittenschwand. This gives you two named starting points from which the trail connects the historic sites. Its approximate length helps you fit the walk into your day’s plans; you can choose whether to start at the museum or town hall based on where you would like to begin.
The abandoned mine and its minerals are the focus of the “Gottesehre” Mineral Museum in Dachsberg-Urberg. A film and other media provide information about the mine, and several display cases showcase minerals from the mine. This allows you to explore the subject of mining not only on the trail but also through its geological finds. The Zeidlerpfad in Dachsberg-Urberg near the “Goldenhof” focuses on a different historical practice: it shows how honey was once harvested and bees kept, and offers insights into traditional forest beekeeping and its ecological importance.
Routes for different kinds of outings
Dachsberg and Ibach have an extensive network of routes for hiking, Nordic walking, cycling and winter outings. The designated Nordic walking routes are marked with round yellow signs. In winter, you can explore the high plateaus and forests on prepared winter hiking trails. When choosing a location for your holiday apartment, it is therefore worth weighing up the activities you want to include in your travel plans, without having to devote every day to the same kind of outing.
Dachsberg and Ibach are members of the Black Forest Biosphere Reserve, which was established in 2016. Together with the routes across high plateaus and through forests, this provides a setting for the landscape in which you can plan your outings. Practical information for visiting the museum
The “Gottesehre” Mineral Museum is open on Sundays and Thursdays from 2 to 4 pm, from Easter to November and during the Christmas holidays in Baden-Württemberg. If you would like to combine a visit to the museum with the mining trail, you can take these opening times into account when planning your day. If you would rather explore mining history outdoors, the trail, which is about seven kilometres long, offers a separate option; if you are interested in minerals from the mine, you can make the museum visit your main focus.
