Border Location and Sculpture Trail

A bridge over the Rhine connects Hohentengen with the medieval town of Kaiserstuhl on the Swiss side. The cross-border Sculpture Trail also connects the town of Kaiserstuhl and the municipality of Hohentengen across the national border. The bridge and Sculpture Trail bring the cross-border connection to life in different ways. Weißwasserstelz Castle and Chapel

The ruins of Weißwasserstelz Castle lie between Hohentengen and Lienheim, at Guggenmühle, surrounded by woodland. A short footpath leads to the remains of the walls. The castle was built around the 11th century and originally belonged to Reichenau Abbey. This combines a description of the site with its historical context: woodland and masonry define the ruins, while the construction period and its ties to the abbey provide the historical background.

Walking Trails and Footbath

Well-marked walking trails in Hohentengen pass through vineyards, follow the Sculpture Trail and continue through the woodland to Bergöschingen. You can also plan your route to the footbath using specific directions: From the centre of Hohentengen, follow Bergstraße to the local road between Hohentengen and Bergöschingen. Shortly after the first rest area at the pavilion, a woodland path signposted for the footbath branches off to the right. The facility is about 200 metres along, on the right. As local signs may change, check them before setting out.

Seasonal Outdoor Pools and Excursion Destinations

Hohentengen and Lienheim each have an outdoor pool that is open during the outdoor swimming season. The Hohentengen pool has a slide and is considered a family-friendly excursion destination. Lienheimer Berg offers views over the Rhine Valley and is an excursion destination. The “enjoy & bike” cycling network offers routes for cyclists. Alongside the walking trails, this gives you a choice of different holiday activities, including a viewpoint and cycling routes.

The Hohentengen Wine Festival takes place in autumn on the second weekend of September. If you would like to plan your trip around it, check the dates for the year in question.
