Hiking trails and views at the Weiße Stein

The Comfort Hiking Trail 1 is called “From the Long Cherry Tree to the Weiße Stein.” In Dossenheim, it winds through the varied landscape of the Neckartal-Odenwald Nature Park and is 5.38 km long. The trail also leads to the Weiße Stein Tower. From there, you can enjoy views of the surrounding area; the observation tower is accessible via steps. There is also a restaurant with a beer garden and a children’s playground.

At 550 m above sea level, the so-called Weiße Stein is the highest point in Dossenheim. If you include a hike to this destination in your trip, you can take the Comfort Hiking Trail’s length into account when planning your day. For longer hikes, a section of the long-distance Burgensteig Bergstraße trail also passes through Dossenheim.

Exploring by mountain bike or on foot

Another option for active days is the Steinbrecher Trail. The mountain bike circuit in Dossenheim is 19 km long, has 800 metres of elevation gain and consists of six trail sections. Local history museum and Dossenheim traditions

The local history museum is housed in Dossenheim’s old town hall. Guided by the theme “Life and Work in the Stonecutter Village,” it documents aspects of Dossenheim’s early history, its castles and its connections with the quarries. The Dossenheim schoolroom is part of the museum. On display there are old school supplies, books, dollhouses and other historical objects.

The Leferenz quarry is also part of the town’s history: this former quarry in Dossenheim has become an experience space featuring a total of nine Geopoint information panels. The subject of quarries thus features both in the local history museum’s exhibits and at this former extraction site.

The Dossemer Kerwe is held every year in September. This street festival celebrating local customs features a small amusement park for children, food stalls and live music. Dossenheim’s old traditions also include the traditional Holzäpfeltanz. It has been passed down since the 17th century and has a firmly established place as part of the Dossenheimer Kerwe.

Getting here and nearby places

Dossenheim is on the B3 federal highway, is connected to the A5 motorway and is easy to reach by car. Tram services run from Dossenheim to Heidelberg, Mannheim and Weinheim. These connections may be a factor in choosing Dossenheim as a base if you also want to include these cities in your trip.

The municipality also includes the agriculturally focused district of Schwabenheimer Hof, also known as the hamlet of Schwabenheim. It is considered a popular destination for visitors, hikers and cyclists, especially in spring and summer.
