Discover orchard and tree trails
The 2.7-kilometre orchard and tree trail in Bretzenacker focuses on plant diversity: along the way, visitors can discover around 200 different fruit tree and woody plant species. The stated route length and variety of species give the trail a clear focus on nature. In spring 2018, the municipality of Berglen also marked six new circular hiking trails with the Naturpark’s standardised trail signs. This brings different types of hiking into view: a named route with a special focus on species, and circular trails whose signage was installed in 2018.
The arboretum is located on the edge of the forest in Hößlinswart. Established in 1982, it has since been redesigned by BUND and the Hößlinswart Fruit and Horticultural Association, and showcases almost all woody plant species that grow wild here. Compared with the orchard and tree trail, the focus shifts from species along a route to the diversity of wild-growing woody plants in a garden. If you enjoy experiencing the landscape through its plants, these offer two different nature-focused options for your plans.
Experience the seasons and the landscape
The Sommerrain nature reserve lies not far from the starting point of the Königsbronn circular trail. Native orchid species grow there and bloom at different times of year. This seasonal nature highlight can be considered alongside the wider range of hiking options: in Berglen and the surrounding area, there are walking and hiking trails where you can discover the beauty of the landscape in every season. In winter, options for ski touring and cross-country skiing are also available. This lets you choose the focus of your trip according to the season and the activity you have in mind, without planning every day in the same way.
Local history as a different focus for an outing
The Berglen local history museum is located in Oppelsbohm. Through selected objects, it presents past living conditions and significant economic developments in Berglen. This cultural focus on local history complements the nature and hiking themes. If you are planning a trip with children, you can divide your days according to their interests: plants and landscapes take centre stage at the nature sites described, while the museum focuses on life in the past and the town’s economic development.

In Ödernhardt, several benches invite you to pause and enjoy the natural surroundings and the view. The accessible bus stop in Ödernhardt is close to the hiking trail. Separately, in spring 2020, one of the first wheelchair-accessible hiking trails in the Naturpark area was initiated in Berglen in cooperation with the Bundesverband Selbsthilfe Körperbehinderter e. V., the Kreisjugendring Rems-Murr e. V. and the Naturpark Schwäbisch-Fränkischer Wald. If you plan to take this route, check its current accessibility before your visit.
