Leutkirch im Allgäu lies in a hilly foothills landscape between forests and ponds. Circular hiking trails, a large bathing lake and the glassmaking history of the Adelegg give a stay here a variety of highlights. When choosing a holiday apartment, it helps to ask what you would like to focus on: hiking, water or culture. Trails pass by the water, through the Unterer Stadtwald forest and across the Adelegg.

Trails through forests, along ponds and to viewpoints

Circular Hiking Trail 1 passes the Repsweiher pond and then continues into the Unterer Stadtwald forest. It also runs along the railway line to Leutkirch and crosses the Eschach. Hikers can take a break at the Siebenbrünnen springs and refresh themselves with cool spring water; water availability may vary. The route brings together forests, water and other distinctive features of the landscape.

Circular Hiking Trail 2 leads from the old town towards the Waldkapelle chapel and reaches the Weiherweg at the edge of town. On the way back to Leutkirch, it passes the Repsweiher pond. A detour leads to Balterazhofer Höhe, which offers views of the Alpine panorama. At 886 metres, Kapf is the highest point in Leutkirch and helps visitors get their bearings in the hilly landscape.

The family-friendly adventure trail has its own highlights, too: three adventure stations invite visitors to play, picnic and enjoy the views. At the “Panoramic View of Gallus Chapel” station, there is a viewing frame for the chapel, bicycle parking, a slackline, a lounging bench and a relaxation lounger. The facilities at individual stations may change.

Glassmaking history in the Adelegg

The Glasius Trail runs for just over four kilometres along the Eschach through the Adelegg and starts in Schmidsfelden. Along the way, 16 interactive learning and play stations invite children and adults to discover the history of glassmaking in the Adelegg. The trail combines exercise with a subject that is also part of the town’s own story.

In the historic glassmaking village of Schmidsfelden, glassmaker Stefan Michaelis gives glassmaking demonstrations. Check the current schedule before your visit. The former glassmaking village is also home to a glass museum, which presents the area's glassmaking history. It covers both the “glass barons” and the ordinary workers. The demonstrations and the museum offer different ways to explore the same craft: one through a live demonstration, the other through its history and the people behind it.

Water and music in town

The Stadtweiher in Leutkirch is an 18-hectare bathing lake. Swimming conditions may vary. If you would like to add a regular cultural event to your stay, a weekly open-air concert is held in the market square. Check the current schedule before your visit.

Plan your stay around the experiences you want

For families, the two adventure trails have different focuses: the adventure trail brings together play, picnics and views at three stations, while the Glasius Trail combines a hike along the Eschach with learning stations about glassmaking history. Circular Hiking Trail 2, in turn, offers views of the Alpine panorama via its detour to Balterazhofer Höhe. When planning, you can consider whether you would like to focus more on hiking, water or culture during your stay.

These preferences are also a useful starting point when searching for a holiday apartment: Would you mainly like to explore the trails, spend time at the bathing lake or learn more about the history of glassmaking? Leutkirch offers a range of experiences, so you do not have to limit yourself to just one kind of excursion. Those who want to combine nature and culture can make the trail stations and Schmidsfelden the focus of their plans; those looking for variety can add the Stadtweiher or the open-air concert in the market square to their stay.
