Art at the Kleihues-Bau
The Museum im Kleihues-Bau presents changing exhibitions devoted primarily to contemporary art and current topics. Its art collection comprises around 3,000 works, predominantly German art from the 20th and 21st centuries. The current exhibition and the collection offer two perspectives: the program changes, while the holdings include art from both centuries. Kornwestheim S-Bahn station is 700 metres from the museum and serves as a practical landmark when planning a museum visit. Curator-led tours, themed tours and family tours are offered for all exhibitions; check with the museum for current tour arrangements. The Kleihues-Bau was added to the list of cultural heritage monuments in 2017.
Shoe history and lessons from the past
The City of Kornwestheim's Cultural History Collection comprises around 30,000 objects and paints a multifaceted picture of the city's history. A significant part of it is the Salamander collection, featuring objects from the former Kornwestheim shoe factory Salamander. These include industrial sewing machines, shoes dating from 1890 to the present, Lurchi promotional items and tableware from the factory canteen. Together, these objects offer a varied record of the history of Salamander AG.
The North Württemberg School Museum offers a different historical perspective: in a historic classroom, visitors can experience a school lesson as it was in the past. The museum also attracts school groups from near and far. If you are planning a visit, check the current visitor arrangements.
City parks and landmarks
Opened in 1938, the Stadtgarten covers around 2.5 hectares. Among its seasonally arranged plantings, you will find a bandstand, a playground and numerous places to relax. Salamander City Park covers 6.7 hectares, with its large playground in the eastern section. In terms of area, Salamander City Park is the larger of the two.
The 48-metre-high town hall tower is also a landmark that helps orient you in the city: it is a symbol of Kornwestheim and can be seen beyond the district boundary.
