Cultural history and art

Built in 1866 in the Moorish style, Montfort Castle is the landmark of Langenargen. It is not generally open for visits; besides the restaurant, only the tower is accessible to visitors. If you would like to include the castle in your explorations, bear this restriction in mind.

The Langenargen Museum brings together art and the history of the town and the County of Montfort. Its collection includes works of art and historical artefacts from Langenargen’s more than 1,200-year history, as well as from the closely intertwined history of the county. The exhibits include paintings, sculptures, prints, coins and medals from the Middle Ages to the present day. The artists and creators have a special connection to the Lake Constance region and Langenargen. The museum’s exhibits therefore range from different art forms to artefacts from the region’s past.

The Catholic parish church of St Martin is also part of the town’s art-historical character. It is considered one of the gems along the Upper Swabian Baroque Route and is highly regarded for its artistic heritage. Visitors interested in Baroque art and regional architecture will find another cultural highlight here, alongside the museum collection.

Lakeside promenade, lido and sailing

The lakeside promenade runs between Montfort Castle and the Seeterrasse Hotel. From there, you can enjoy views of the lake and the Swiss mountains on the opposite shore. The view across the water offers a change of scene from the cultural attractions: you can include the promenade in your time by the lake without focusing your stay solely on the museum or local history.

The Langenargen lido on Lake Constance has a heated swimming pool and a leisure pool with a water mushroom and slide. It offers different types of pools. If you would like to spend some time in the water during your stay, the lido is a specific part of Langenargen’s leisure activities.

Water sports on offer include sailing courses for children, sailing courses for adults with an exam, and sailing training. The small municipal harbour and the large BMK yacht harbour also offer various facilities and services for water sports enthusiasts. Cycling and cultural programme

The Lake Constance Cycle Path runs from Montfort Castle through Langenargen’s historic town centre and continues via Kressbronn, Nonnenhorn and Wasserburg to Lindau. Langenargen is a named stop on a route connecting several towns.
