In the lower Brettach Valley, Langenbrettach’s districts are set amid wooded surroundings. Cycling, church art, Albrecht Goes’ early life and the Brettach apple are among the area’s defining themes. The apple is juicy and slightly tart. Here, landscapes, cycling and local history come together around a culinary highlight.

Cycling in the Brettach Valley

The Brettach Valley Cycle Route is 22 km long and connects Bretzfeld, Langenbrettach and Neuenstadt am Kocher. Langenbrettach is therefore one of the three municipalities connected by the route, which also extends beyond the municipality. If you like to factor a named cycle route into your choice of holiday destination, this gives you a specific point of reference. The wooded surroundings of the districts add a distinctive landscape feature.

Local history and church art

The poet and pastor Albrecht Goes was born in Langenbeutingen in 1908 and lived in the municipality until he was six. This early biographical connection offers a tangible link to local history. The Albrecht Goes Room is opened to visitors on request and by prior appointment. If you would like to include it in your plans, arrange a time with the municipality in advance.

The Protestant village church in Brettach was built in 1578. Its gallery features numerous frescoes and oil paintings with biblical motifs, and the church also has colourful stained-glass windows. The building’s history and its imagery offer different ways to explore the area’s sacred heritage, without requiring a visit on any particular date.

The Brettach Mill is another cultural landmark in Langenbrettach: it is a protected cultural monument and serves as an event venue. The Brettach apple adds a culinary speciality to these historical themes. Its juicy, slightly tart flavour makes it a distinctive part of the local profile.

More to explore in the wider Heilbronn destination

The wider Heilbronn destination opens up a broader regional perspective. In Heilbronn district, there are around 1,000 km of signposted day-loop routes in Kraichgau, Zabergäu, Weinsberger Tal and Schozach-Bottwartal. The Neckar Valley Cycle Route is also among the cycling routes highlighted in the district. This makes it possible to compare the 22 km Brettach Valley connection with a wider regional cycling network, without treating the routes as one and the same.

The Stromberg-Heuchelberg Nature Park is part of the wider regional landscape. It encompasses 25 municipalities in four districts, including Heilbronn district. Weibertreu Castle Ruins are a viewpoint and a small open-air museum at the entrance to Weinsberger Tal. The Wine and Rose Trail offers a particularly scenic climb to the ruins.
