Cleebronn’s sights range from the Staufer-era Magenheim Castle complex and the long history of St Michael’s Church to a wine bar and a distinctive ride at Tripsdrill Adventure Park. This variety offers different starting points for planning your trip: architectural history, wine or a launched roller coaster can each take centre stage. When looking for a holiday apartment, it is therefore worth first deciding which of these topics interests you most during your stay.

Experiences with different highlights

At Tripsdrill Adventure Park, the “Karacho” launched roller coaster accelerates to 100 km/h in 1.6 seconds. These two figures give a concrete impression of the ride’s acceleration. Check the park’s current operating information before your visit.

The “Christophsblick” wine bar is located on Michaelsberg. It is run by the Cleebronn-Güglingen eG winegrowers’ cooperative together with Storz Weinkellerei, Weingut Holzwarth and Weingut Ranspacher Hof. The tourist information lists Saturday and Sunday as opening days; check the current opening information before your visit. This means Cleebronn offers a choice between a wine bar and a ride, catering to very different interests.

Castle, church and town hall: Cleebronn’s history

Magenheim Castle stands above Cleebronn and is a large, well-preserved and historically authentic Staufer castle complex. Its features include a palas, the well-preserved building known as the “Gothic Stone House” and ashlar masonry. These named architectural features also make the complex interesting to visitors who want to learn about historic architecture beyond the general term “castle.”

St Michael’s Church was first mentioned in a document in 793 and was the centre of an early Christian district. After church use ceased temporarily in the 16th century, it was used as a barn. Count Johann Philipp von Stadion had it restored in 1727; a Capuchin hospice was added in 1739, and monks ran it until 1823. Its changing uses give the building a history that extends far beyond its first documented mention.

Today’s Cleebronn town hall also tells the story of the town: it was built in 1736 under Count Johann Philipp von Stadion in what was then Neu-Cleebronn. There are so-called “jeering faces” on its south and west sides. The building thus combines a precisely dated chapter of local history with details to look out for as you view its façades.
