Countryside, trails and a playground in Egenhausen

The “Egenhäuser Kapf” nature reserve lies between the Upper Gäu and the Black Forest plateau. The Altensteig Nature Discovery Trail also passes over the Kapf, among other places. These are two distinct points of interest for hikers: the reserve’s location between the two regions and the Kapf’s place along the trail. There is a playground in the settlement designed specifically for young children. Its facilities include various swings, spring riders, a zip line, a climbing frame and a sandpit. The range extends from swings and sand to climbing and movement equipment. This offers children a variety of ways to play rather than limiting the playground to a single activity. Elsewhere, the Haiterbach Nature Discovery Trail offers a family-friendly outing: it teaches children about trees and their leaves, as well as the geology of the quarry. At the animal long-jump activity, visitors can also compare the jumping ability of different animals.

In Schömberg, the barefoot park features a course about 800 metres long, with more than 20 different materials. It offers a different kind of nature experience from a hike through the Oak Grove and meadows. The park may operate seasonally; check its opening hours before travelling.

You can explore history at another location in the wider Calw destination: in Nagold, the ruins of Hohennagold Castle stand on Nagold Castle Hill. The foundations of various buildings in the castle’s central complex, dating from the 12th century, are still preserved today. In Calw, handcrafted, single-seat hot rods are used for excursions through the Black Forest at the site of the former Alte Deckenfabrik. They can reach speeds of up to 90 km/h. If you plan to take a ride, check availability with the operator.

Culinary experiences also add to the excursion options in the wider Calw destination. The Backhausfest in Ebhausen takes place every year on the first weekend in May. As part of the programme, visitors can sample onion cake and wood-fired oven bread from the local bakehouses. Confirm the date for the year of your trip.
