Rafting and forest trails set the pace

Unterreichenbach can be discovered through two very different sides of the town: rafting tells the story of a once economically important tradition, while a network of hiking trails covers the entire municipal area and extends into the adjoining “Kleb” nature reserve. A forest discovery trail also runs through the reserve. Other highlights include a rafting museum and the signposted Nagold Valley Cycle Route, which passes by Unterreichenbach. When choosing a holiday destination based on the experiences you want, you can weigh up cultural history, hiking and cycling as your main interests.

Rafting at the museum and the Talhuben Festival

The rafting museum was established in 1999 in the basement of Tannberg School in Unterreichenbach. The exhibition focuses on rafting, which was once of great economic importance to the town. A detailed model of Unterreichenbach’s former railway station adds another piece of local history to the exhibition. The museum is open by prior telephone appointment. So if you are interested in the town’s history, you can plan your visit in advance with a phone call.

The Talhuben Festival also commemorates the rafting tradition. It was first held on 27/28 May 1978 as a new tradition, in remembrance of the town’s rafting heritage, which dates back well over 600 years. At the Talhuben Festival, Unterreichenbach’s Talhuben rafters demonstrate trips on an original raft more than 100 metres long. The festival thus brings together local commemoration and a demonstration on the raft. For your holiday plans, it offers a distinct cultural highlight alongside a visit to the museum.

Hiking and cycling as separate highlights

The network of hiking trails covers the entire municipal area and extends into the adjoining “Kleb” nature reserve, where the forest discovery trail is located. If you enjoy exploring on foot during your stay, this network gives you a specific starting point for choosing your outings. The forest discovery trail offers a distinct way to explore the subject of forests. This lets you focus your days on trails and nature, or put the emphasis on the history of rafting.

For cyclists, the signposted Nagold Valley Cycle Route passes by Unterreichenbach. One specifically named hike is “Unterreichenbach, through Kleb Forest to Hohe Warte”. It is accessible by bus and train; its starting point is about 300 m from the railway station. When planning your outings, you can therefore choose between a cycling route and this hike. The accessibility details refer to the hike; the cycle route is described as a signposted route that passes by the town.
