Stone Sculptures and Village Festival
The sculpture field features 15 distinctive stone sculptures. They were created by renowned sculptors from five countries and three continents. The works offer a special opportunity to engage with a range of artistic forms. The field is very well signposted within the village, making it easy to include as a standalone destination during your stay, without having to link the artworks with other stops to create a route that is not officially marked.
The annual St. Lawrence Festival is also part of the village’s calendar. It is held in honour of Saint Lawrence and Saint Agatha on the first weekend in August. If you travel to Oggelshausen at this time, you can take this regular event into account when planning your trip.
Explore the Moorland on Foot
Oggelshausen lies directly on the Lake Federsee circular hiking trail. Starting in Bad Buchau, the trail goes through Oggelshausen, Tiefenbach, Seekirch, Alleshausen, Brackenhofen and Moosburg in turn. Further along its regional route, it circles the Federsee nature reserve and roughly follows the shoreline of Lake Federsee as it ran before the lake was artificially lowered just over 200 years ago. The combination of today’s moorland and the former shoreline also makes the trail appealing to visitors who want to experience both nature and the history of the landscape.
Another option is the Archaeological Moorland Nature Trail. This 9.5 km trail leads into the Southern Federsee Ried nature reserve and can be accessed directly from Oggelshausen. Its 11 stops provide information about prehistoric moorland settlements as well as natural and local history. The trail’s length can be taken into account when planning your day, and the stops provide themed points of interest along the way.
Sculpture Field and Cycling Tours
If you want to visit the sculpture field on foot, follow the signposted route. After about 2 km, you will reach a hiking car park at the edge of the forest; from there, visitors can walk to the sculptures. This distance refers to the route to the car park, not the onward walk to the artworks. This makes it possible to plan the visit as a walk and distinguish it from longer tours through the moorland.
Cyclists can connect from Oggelshausen to the important long-distance Danube Cycle Path and Lake Constance Cycle Path. If you want to include several cycle routes in your trip, you can take these connections into account when choosing where to stay. Oggelshausen also has a direct public transport connection to Bad Buchau and Biberach via the L 280 state road.
