Vernaison: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Bus route 15 connects Bellecour, Irigny and Vernaison; to access the Sentier de l’Homme et du Fleuve, you can get off at the “Vernaison–Place” stop.

Nature

Parc Bernard Clavel provides access to the paths of the Espace nature north of the Pont de Vernaison; the entrance is at the car park of the sports centre grounds at the end of Rue du Port Puys.

The Lône Ciselande was re-excavated in 1999–2000. The historic Vieux-Rhône at Vernaison is now a low-water river channel with several islands suitable for walks, including Île de la Table Ronde. Grey herons, night herons and great egrets can be observed in the Lônes Ciselande and Jaricot in the natural area near Vernaison.

The wider regional surroundings of Vernaison include Mont d'Or, Le Châtelard, Crêt Montmain and Mont Pothu Nord; all four are mountains.

Culture and History

Parc Bernard Clavel was named after the writer Bernard Clavel, who lived in Vernaison for several years. The Traille de Vernaison resumed operations after the suspension bridge was interrupted in June 1940 and remained in service until 1959. Two carefully constructed ashlar pillars remain from the former Traille de Vernaison.
