The limestone locally known as “Lucenay stone” consists almost exclusively of ooids, small spherical grains less than 2 mm in diameter. These formed around 165 million years ago in highly agitated and relatively shallow seawater at a depth of 0 to 10 m.

Their exploitation was abandoned at the beginning of the 20th century, partly due to the emergence of concrete.

Also located in the vicinity of Lucenay are the Château de Saint-André du Coing, a castle; the Couvent Sainte-Marie de La Tourette, a monastery; and the Abbaye Saint-Martin de Savigny, a historic site.
