Culture and History
The medieval Vieux Bourg preserves traces such as a defensive tower and fortification walls. The Chapelle romane du Vieux bourg was Montagny’s seigneurial chapel. Its Romanesque features of origin include a massive bell tower, the nave’s arcades and a distinctive portal with a cross.
The murals of the Chapelle romane du Vieux bourg were extensively restored in 1997. Following its deconsecration, the chapel has been used for cultural events; it has been listed as a historic monument since 1980.
Between Easter and All Saints’ Day, the Chapelle romane du Vieux bourg is open on the first Sunday of each month from 2:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Visits are possible on request.
