Landscape
The wetlands in Lissieu are also part of the natural character of the area and have encouraged distinctive flora and fauna. Lissieu has also joined the Syndicat Mixte des Monts d’Or, an area with more than 2,500 hectares of natural and agricultural land, as well as hiking trails and viewpoints.
The Étang de Bois Dieu was created in the 1850s. It is fed by a contained spring and is equipped with a landing stage.
History
Lissieu was once a wine-growing area. After the phylloxera crisis, the vineyards gave way to productive orchards, particularly for pear production.
Les Tours de Lissieu are the remains of a 12th-century castle and have been listed in the register of historic monuments since 1936. They remain accessible to visitors who would like to learn more about the area's history. During the European Heritage Days, the towers can be visited by prior arrangement with the municipal administration.
Culture
The Chapelle de Bois Dieu was built around 1695. In the Glacière de Bois Dieu, ice taken from the pond at a lower elevation was once stored during winter.
Hiking
The Sentier Géologie et Paysage is a 10.6-kilometre circular trail in Lissieu. It has a moderate difficulty level and an elevation gain of 181 metres; the duration is more than two hours. The starting point is Lissieu Bourg. The trail can be reached by Bus 61 via the Lissieu Centre Mairie stop.
