Culture and History

The “Histoire et patrimoine” trail uses nine information panels to present the history of old buildings and listed structures. The local history also includes Genay’s role as the first capital of the historic Franc-Lyonnais.

The Pilier de Justice in Genay is a 1.70 m-high monolithic block with a wrought-iron ring on each side. The Le Lavoir des Mignotières washhouse was renovated in 2007 and symbolically marks the entrance to the town centre. The Eglise Sainte Madeleine church contains a stained-glass window by the glass artist and painter Augustin Burlet (1892–1953).

Nature and Trails

Parc de Rancé features a botanical trail and an orienteering course around approximately 23 tree species. The park also has a children’s area, a fitness trail, and benches for walking and relaxing.

The Jacques Chauviré trail is a nature route focusing on observing the Grand Rieu stream, the Saône, and their ecosystems. As far as Port Bernalin, it is approximately 9 km there and back; the average duration is 2 hours and 30 minutes. The trail runs along dirt tracks and a towpath, can be completed on foot, by mountain bike, or on horseback, and is considered not difficult.

The Franc Lyonnais trail leads from Genay through fields and forests, passes through Montanay and Neuville-sur-Saône, and reaches the Torrières natural area.

Local Life

Genay has a food market with fruit and vegetables every Saturday year-round from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
