Étrembières: Holiday apartments and holiday homes

The Château d’Étrembières is a fortified house dating from the late 13th or early 14th century; three of its round corner towers have survived. Renting a holiday apartment in Étrembières is one possible part of planning your own trip.

Culture

The Art’Salève cultural centre offers a programme of conferences, concerts, performances and exhibitions.

Nature

The Étangs d’Étrembières consist of three bodies of water on the banks of the Arve. They form a natural area classified as a biotope, home to several regionally and nationally protected animal and plant species, including beavers, little grebes, reed buntings and great reed warblers. The Étangs d’Étrembières are freely accessible year-round; one access route leads via the Chemin des Grandes Îles at Pas de l’Échelle, and the wooded paths are suitable for walking.

The Aigue Noire rises on the Salève near the municipal boundary with Bossey. It is also a place open to everyone for relaxation and walking.

The 1,379-metre-high Mont Salève towers over Étrembières; from its summit, there are expansive views of Geneva and the surrounding area.

History

In the area of Pas de l’Échelle, Magdalenian finds dating from 15,000 to 10,000 BC were discovered in 1833, including a perforated baton carved from reindeer antler and engraved with an ibex.

The Jewish cemetery officially called Cimetière israélite de Veyrier lies across the border between France and Switzerland, is accessible from both countries and is located 70 % within the municipal territory of Étrembières, where French law applies.

Activities

The Téléphérique du Salève takes visitors to an altitude of 1,100 metres in less than five minutes and offers views of Lake Geneva, Geneva and the Alps. Hiking is offered at Mont Salève as a visitor activity and can be combined with the Téléphérique du Salève. An introduction to paragliding is also offered there as a visitor activity and can be combined with the Téléphérique du Salève.

At La Grande Varappe, there is a 20-metre-high climbing wall accompanied by an approved instructor.
