Coucouron: Holiday apartments and holiday homes

The Église Saint-Martin was founded in the 12th century. After suffering damage during the French Revolution, it was almost completely rebuilt from 1854 onwards. Its portal was placed under protection in 1907 and is the building’s only surviving Romanesque element.

Culture

Coucouron’s market takes place every Wednesday morning in the village. The Heritage Trail uses signage throughout the village and explanatory panels at each stop to offer a playful exploration of Coucouron. Along the way, it presents traditional volcanic stone buildings as architectural heritage connected with the geology of the surrounding area.

Nature

The “Noctula” bat interpretation trail begins at Lac de Coucouron and includes seven playful information stations about the forest and bats. The trail is accessible free of charge all year round in favourable weather conditions.

A 1.5 km walking path runs around Lac de Coucouron; supervised swimming is available there in July and August. The lake has a pontoon that enables people with reduced mobility to safely take part in their activity and enjoy the lake. Lac de Coucouron also has a picnic area, a playground, water games, a slide and pedal boats.

Lac de Coucouron is a 12-hectare fishing lake whose waters are home to trout, carp, perch and white fish.

Routes and landscapes

The “La Tour de Villeneuve, le moulin de Courbet” route starts and ends at the Place de l’Office de Tourisme in Coucouron and passes through Coucouron, Lachapelle-Graillouse and Lafarre. Laoune Volcano is a Strombolian volcano that is reflected in the lake at the end of the day.
