Treffort-Cuisiat: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

The Musée du Revermont is housed in the renovated former town hall and school in Cuisiat. The museum includes a conservational vegetable and fruit garden in which more than 650 local, unusual or forgotten plant species are cultivated.

Since 17 September 2003, the Musée du Revermont has carried the French designation “Musée de France” within the meaning of the French Heritage Code. It also conveys the heritage of an area formerly shaped by winegrowing and by the clay used for the famous faience of Meillonnas; its colours and patterns are considered characteristic.

Culture and History

The museum and park of Château de Treffort can be visited independently as part of a self-guided visit. The museum of Château de Treffort leads visitors through ten rooms and covers the history of the castle from its construction in the Middle Ages to its renovation by Tony Ferret in the 20th century.

Treffort has preserved its medieval layout and winemakers’ houses; historic wells line the streets. Its defensive past and former fortifications are reflected in a covered way, the castle remains that are now privately owned, and the former town walls running along the valley side.

Château de Treffort offers historical activities: an outdoor area with games from earlier times for children aged five and over, a screening of a drawn and subtitled story, and reproductions of historic weapons from various periods.

In the wider regional area, Mont Châtel is located in Pressiat (Val-Revermont), between Mont Myon and Montfort. It is one of the few Merovingian hilltop settlements in France documented through archaeological excavations.

Nature and Activities

At La Grange du Pin in Cuisiat, there is an eight-hectare body of water for swimming and fishing. A developed path leads around it. Activities available there include hiking, fishing, mountain biking and a treetop adventure course.

The summit of Mont Châtel can be reached after an approximately 30-minute strenuous hike through the forest and offers particularly beautiful views.

Cycling

The “L'Ain à Vélo – Le mégatour de la montagne de l'Ain” route starts at the Base de Loisirs La Grange du Pin in Cuisiat. Its first stage passes through Cuisiat and Pressiat.

Black mountain-bike loop route no. 1 leads from the Musée du Revermont via the Chapelle de Montfort and then descends directly to Cuisiat.

Local Character

Treffort presents its former winegrowing culture; today, Comté replaces the former “p’tit vin” of the Cavets.
