Culture
The ruins of the Donjon de Buenc are a fortified historic monument in Hautecourt-Romanèche. Its main construction phases date from the 13th and 15th centuries. Since 28 June 1974, the Donjon de Buenc has been listed as a historic monument.
The Fontaine de Challes is enclosed by a 35-metre-long monumental ensemble and serves as a venue for outdoor cultural events. The stone from Romanèche also has significance beyond the local area: it was used for numerous buildings in France, including the stairs of Saint-Charles railway station in Marseille and the Trocadéro in Paris.
Nature
The Grotte de Hautecourt is a karst cave extending over 150 metres. Its special features include characteristic terrestrial and aquatic invertebrate fauna as well as geological features such as fault mirrors and sinter formations. Access to the Grotte de Hautecourt is closed to the public all year round and is only possible for external persons with named authorisation.
The dinosaur footprint site in Hautecourt-Romanèche is part of the ENS Haute Vallée de l'Ain. At the Villette dinosaur footprint site in Hautecourt-Romanèche, dozens of sauropod tracks have been preserved and are dated to 150 million years ago.
The Roches du Jarbonnet belong to the Haute rivière d'Ain, which was designated an ENS by the Ain département in 2019. A short path along the cliffs of the Roches du Jarbonnet leads to new viewpoints, the rock ledges and the access point to the Sentier du vertige.
Activities
The Tour de Hautecourt-Romanèche circular hike is 28 kilometres long and has a total elevation gain of 1,060 metres. Numerous variants of this tour allow circular routes lasting from 1 hour 20 minutes to 7 hours 35 minutes.
The Base de loisirs de l'Ile Chambod has a landscaped beach. Swimming there is supervised in July and August and the beach is accessible to people with disabilities. Activities include canoeing, fishing and boating.
Cycling, hiking, pedal boating and stand-up paddleboarding are available on ÃŽle Chambod-Merpuis in summer.
Orientation
At the Villette dinosaur footprint site, there is an information board in the car park; the path to the site can be followed on foot using the signs. At the site, two parallel dinosaur tracks run across the platform for approximately 40 metres.
Two descriptive panels are available in Hautecourt on the town hall square and in Romanèche near the church.
