Culture and history
The oldest part of the parish church of Saint Laurent and Saint Michel is the choir, which originated from a former castle chapel dating from the 10th century. The nave was built in two phases during the 14th and 15th centuries and completed in the 17th century. The parish church is connected to the medieval keep of the castle of the Montauban, Baron of the Baronnies.
The fortification walls of Villedieu were probably built at the same time as the church, in the 10th century. They still preserve parts of a former covered way.
The Chapelle Saint-Laurent is the only chapel still visible in Villedieu. Various artistic events take place there in summer; Saint Laurent is celebrated on 10 August.
The ruins of La villasse - Maison du Buste d'Argent and the historic site of Abbaye de Bouchet are also located in the vicinity of Villedieu.
The wider region around Villedieu is home to Château de Grignan, the Harmas Jean-Henri Fabre museum and Montagne de Baume Noire.
Local produce
The Confrérie Saint Vincent de Villedieu was re-established in 1973 by local winegrowers in order to revive the tradition of the Commanderie des Côtes du Rhône. Every year, the Confrérie admits a new member who undertakes to defend the appellation concerned.
Les Amandes de Villedieu are produced locally by Jonathan Fauque according to the principles of organic farming. Production includes the two French varieties Mandaline and Lauranne. Les Amandes de Villedieu are available at Caveau Villedieu Buisson, at Les Caves des Collines in Vaison-la-Romaine or by appointment.
