Freissinières stretches along the Biaysse as a 20-kilometre-long hanging valley. The area comprises 13 hamlets with historic buildings, as well as churches, temples and old mills.

Nature and Trails
Le circuit des lacs is a difficult, six-hour, 13.1-kilometre circular hike. The route connects Lac Palluel and Lac Faravel via a balcony trail above the valley and leads through larch forests, alpine pastures and across rock slabs to two lakes in wild cirques. Le circuit des lacs is located in the core area of Parc national des Écrins.
RANDOLAND: Freissinières, by contrast, is a very easy, 1.9-kilometre circular hike. RANDOLAND Freissinières starts and ends at Place du Souvenir in Ville, Freissinières.
Activities
The Tour de glace de Freissinières is an artificial ice-climbing facility with seven ice walls and a dry-tooling area. The Domaine nordique de Freissinières has approximately 15 kilometres of trails for skating and cross-country skiing. It can be reached from the N94 between Gap and Briançon via the D38 and then the D38b towards Freissinières; for parking, the Chalet Nordique opposite Freissinières town hall is recommended.
The Via ferrata de Freissinières is a sporty via ferrata consisting predominantly of traverses on a sunlit, south-facing limestone wall above the valley. It dates from 1988 and was the first via ferrata in France.
Le jardin des Elixirs d'Isabelle cultivates aromatic, medicinal and digestive plants at an altitude of 1,100 metres. The garden can be visited independently or with a guide. For adults, guided visits with a tasting afterwards take place on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at a price of 12 euros.
Culture and History
The Moulin des Ribes was built in 1620 by the village lord, operated until 1945 and was used to produce flour and walnut oil. It is considered the valley's ecomuseum and a typical example of a mountain mill reflecting an Alpine way of life.
The Eglise Sainte-Marie-Madeleine has a strikingly simple exterior with four smooth white walls, a roof and a small bell gable. It may have been the former Temple de Ville, whose existence is documented in the 17th century.
A Huguenot cross is located above the entrance to the Temple des Viollins. The Genevan pastor Félix Neff inaugurated the Temple des Viollins in 1824.
