Chauray: holiday apartments and holiday homes

Chauray lies on a hillside above the Sèvre Niortaise. Those who choose Chauray as a destination may wish to rent a holiday apartment.

Landscape

The Bords de Sèvre circular trail is 3.7 kilometres long and leads through a rural, shaded landscape. It includes seven hectares of meadows that have been turned into paths.

Exploration

The Tèrra-Aventura route “Secrets de Sèvre bien gardés” is a 4.5-kilometre walking trail for exploration and takes more than two hours. The route is accessible with a pushchair and focuses on Protestantism in Poitou and its secret meetings.

Water

The Centre aquatique des Fraignes has five pools, including a 25 m × 10 m sports pool, a leisure and learning pool of around 125 m² with water jets, a paddling pool, a slide with a landing pool, a whirlpool and a hammam. The centre is primarily geared towards family-oriented leisure activities with an emphasis on play. It also offers unsupervised time slots for the free use of aquabikes.

Market

The Chauray market takes place in the market hall of Espace Bernard Larcher on Fridays and Sundays from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Products on offer include fish, home-grown vegetables and eggs, goat’s cheese, honey, pastries and seasonal goods from other vendors.

Culture

The Temple de Chauray has a trefoil-shaped floor plan and is listed as a historic monument. Since 1989, it has served as a venue for exhibitions and concerts. The Église Saint-Pierre contains a scallop shell at the bottom of the nave wall.
