Saint-Christophe: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

The Les Grandes Chaumes circular hiking trail begins at Étang de Saint-Christophe and follows small roads, grassy paths, and shaded sections. It is fully signposted and follows or partially crosses the Virson and the Ruisseau de Saint-Christophe via footbridges. The route is 10 km long, takes around 2 to 2.5 hours, can be walked year-round, and presents no particular difficulties.

Another route is the Le Treuil au Roy walking trail. It is 7.8 km long, begins at the Aire de la Garenne, and takes just under two hours.

The restored Chemin de la Grève between Tesson and La Grève offers walkers additional route options. The Chemin des Tétards leads from the rear of the cemetery car park to the area behind the community hall. The Parcours Santé at the Aire de la Garenne is also open to athletes of all ages.

History and Culture

Near Le Péré de Saint-Christophe, the Moulin du Frêne can be seen beside the D 108. A coat of arms on the wall indicates that it was a royal mill.

The name Treuil du Roi refers to old screw presses that were once used to produce wine.

The historic sites of Abbaye Saint-Léonard des Chaumes, Abbaye de La Grâce-Dieu, and Château des Réaux are located in the vicinity of Saint-Christophe.

Surroundings

The beach of La Plage d'Aytré is also located near Saint-Christophe. Further afield in the region are the Artothèque de La Rochelle museum (première localisation), the Zoo Aquarium de la Rochelle, and the beaches of Plage des Minimes and Plage du Chef de Baie.
