The Gallo-Roman archaeological site of Le Fâ is located above the Gironde estuary.

The Gallo-Roman archaeological site of Le Fâ and its museum cover more than 2 hectares and offer tours, numerous events and a wide range of educational activities.

Anyone choosing Barzan as a holiday destination may be planning to rent a holiday apartment.

Culture

Guided tours of Le Fâ lead through the ancient city and its two distinctive areas, the baths and the sanctuary. These include the round temple and various rooms in the baths.

The Le Fâ Museum houses almost 1,000 objects recovered during excavations. They are presented in three themed galleries covering everyday life, architecture and trade.

The Le Fâ Museum also displays 3D models and 3D images of the Roman baths and the round temple.

The Church of Saint-Pierre is a Neo-Gothic building with a Latin-cross floor plan.

The Port des Monards and its canal probably date back to the Middle Ages, when the silting-up of the banks of the Gironde estuary influenced the formation of marshland.

Landscape and Orientation

The Pyramid of La Garde is privately owned but can be seen from the road.

It served as a landmark for ships crossing the Gironde estuary.

Getting There

Le Fâ has been awarded the cycle-friendly “Accueil Vélo” label.

By car, Le Fâ can be reached via the A10 motorway, exit 36 towards Jonzac/Pons, and then via Gémozac and Cozes.

Events

On 22 July and on 2, 5, 6, 7, 11, 12 and 22 August 2026, historical performances and classical music will take place in the ancient theatre of Le Fâ as part of the “Fâbuleux Rendez-vous de Barzan”.
