Orry-la-Ville begins at the edge of the village with the washhouse at the Fontaine d’Orry, located on the road to Montgrésin. It was restored from 1994 to 2001, including a complete renewal of the roof.

Culture and history

At Borne-Blanche stands the Castelet, built in 1884 by a Parisian pharmacist. The history of Commelles goes back much further: Louis VI le Gros bought the lands of Commelles from Guillaume de Mello and gave them to Chaalis Abbey in 1136. The Commelles ponds were probably created in the riverbed during the first decade of the 13th century.

In the Clos-de-Comelle in the Chantilly Forest lies the Four de la Grange, also known as the Lanterne des Morts. It has been listed as a classified site through a publication in the Journal officiel dated 18 April 1914. The hamlet of Montgrésin lies on the edge of the forest and overlooks the Thève valley. The Dutch war cemetery in Orry-la-Ville contains the graves of 114 Dutch war dead; the cemetery was established in 1958.

Nature and hiking routes

The area of the three forests—Chantilly, Halatte and Ermenonville—offers numerous opportunities for hiking on foot, on horseback and by bicycle. The “Dans la forêt des moines” route is 9.1 km long and starts and ends at the Maison du Parc in Orry-la-Ville.

The 11.8 km-long “Des étangs de Commelles au village d’Orry-la-Ville” route starts and ends either at Orry-Coye station or at the Maison du Parc. The “En forêt de Coye” walking route is 9.3 km long; its listed starting point is Place de la Gare, 60560 Orry-la-Ville.

Excursions and announced festivals

Roule Adèle offers vintage moped excursions with specially designed routes starting in Orry-la-Ville and showcasing the cultural heritage around Chantilly, Senlis, Pontarmé and the Étangs de Commelles.

The Fête des Moissons is scheduled to take place again in Orry-la-Ville and has been announced as the fifth edition, from 19 to 21 June 2026. The announced programme includes the Saint-Jean bonfires, a music festival, the Fête de la Patate, gastronomic food trucks, a local producers’ market and family activities.
