Culture
The Château de Montherlant is built of brick and stone. It consists of a main residential building, two side wings and two additional wings set back at right angles. The interior retains 18th-century wood panelling. The Château de Montherlant, including its park and garden, was added to the supplementary inventory of protected historic monuments by decree of 17 March 2003. The estate is privately owned and is listed as a place of remembrance associated with a writer.
Notre-Dame de l’Assomption de Montherlant was originally built within the grounds of the Château de Montherlant. The oldest part of the church dates from the Romanesque period. Its splayed portal, known as the “Porte des morts”, is typical of the 12th century. In the 14th century, the church had a choir and a bell tower; the bell tower is unusual and built entirely of stone. The entrance to the nave dates from 1787, while the porch was built in 1836.
The parish church is a rectangular building measuring 21 × 6 metres, with a single nave, a porch and a two-bay, rib-vaulted choir. The pillars of the porch are said to have come from a Gallo-Roman temple. Notre-Dame de l’Assomption de Montherlant has been listed in the inventory of France’s historic monuments since 1970.
Routes
An official cycle route leads to Montherlant-Saint-Crépin-Ibouvillers. The circular route “Trois villages au cœur des Sablons” begins on Rue de l’Église in Montherlant and passes the Château de Montherlant shortly after the start. It then follows an agricultural track through fields, passes through a wooded section and subsequently descends towards Valdampierre.

Notre-Dame de l’Assomption de Montherlant is easily accessible for people with reduced mobility. Visits are possible by prior appointment with the mairie of Saint-Crépin-Ibouvillers.
