The three-storey bell tower has loopholes and windows on its two upper floors; some of them are now bricked up or closed. Above the choir is a refuge room with a fireplace that enabled refugees to cook and keep warm. A Gothic portal made of blue stone leads into the nave, which is separated from the two side aisles by pointed arches. The choir vaults date from the 16th century, while the paintings there date from 1899. The side aisles were added in 1714. Nature

Lavaqueresse lies at the confluence of the stream ruisseau des Oiselets and the Iron, northeast of Guise. Le Torchon is a spring area where the outflows are more or less permanent in winter. The ruisseau des Oiselets includes adjacent wetlands. Surface runoff from the Lavaqueresse catchment area flows into the ruisseau des Oiselets.

Community Life

A traditional brocante was planned for the community festival announced in Lavaqueresse for Sunday, 24 August. A craft market featuring regional products was also planned for visitors. All day, fairground attractions such as bumper cars, a children’s carousel, shooting galleries and duck fishing were planned. The community festival’s lunch menu was to include French fries, sausages, American sandwiches, ham served on a board, tarte au maroilles, flan and waffles.
