The 21.92-hectare ZNIEFF Fort de Mayot covers the municipalities of Anguilcourt-le-Sart and Mayot. The fort overlooks the valleys of the Serre and the Oise. The area includes woodland formations that have gradually become established, as well as vegetation on brick walls and in ditches.

Anguilcourt-le-Sart is also part of the 317.96-hectare ZNIEFF Confluence de la Serre et du ruisseau de Saint-Lambert. This area includes an approximately eight-kilometre-long lower section of the Serre, as well as a similarly long lower section of its left-bank tributary, the Saint-Lambert.

History

The facility was built after the Franco-Prussian War of 1870 and was damaged during both world wars. In the municipality of Anguilcourt-le-Sart, two Senegalese riflemen who were in hiding were shot along with the mayor, his first deputy and the municipality’s gendarme.
