Culture
The Church of Saint Hilaire in Soullans is a three-nave neo-Gothic church built between 1898 and 1900. It houses statuettes of Saint Hilaire of Poitiers and Saint Louis, which are classified as historic monuments.
More than 80 works are on display at the Musée Charles Milcendeau at Bois-Durand, on the edge of the Marais de Soullans. The museum also offers guided tours and workshops. At the Musée Charles Milcendeau, visitors can also see the house where the artist lived with his wife Marguerite; the house is classified as a Monument Historique and has been awarded the Maisons des Illustres label.
Those interested in the Menhir dit de Pierre-Levée, the Musée Charles Milcendeau and the paths in the marshland of Soullans may consider renting a holiday apartment in Soullans.
The team from the Office de Tourisme du Pays de Saint Jean de Monts welcomes visitors in the centre of Soullans every summer in July and August.
Landscape and paths
The Sentier des Mattes is an 8.3 km hiking trail. It follows paths through the freshwater marshland and offers a detour to the Monument de la Rochejaquelein.
The Sentier du grand marais leads from Soullans to wet meadows where fauna and flora shape the landscape. The trail runs through a freshwater marsh area with reed-lined ditches.
Herons, little egrets, mallards and moorhens can be seen in the marshland along the Sentier de la Mongie.
The Boucle Milcendeau leads from Soullans along small country roads.
