La Jaudonnière: Holiday Apartments and Houses

Nature

The “Bocage et bois entre la forêt de Vouvant et le sud de Chantonnay” area is a type II continental ZNIEFF and includes the municipality of La Jaudonnière. It covers a large area of woodland and bocage, where agricultural intensification in the Vendée is comparatively moderate.

This area also includes the valleys of the Smagne and the Longève; among other things, they are of interest for otters and red-backed shrikes. The rural landscape of La Jaudonnière also features sunken lanes.

Culture and History

The Ancienne Église Saint-Pierre de Pareds dates from the 11th and 12th centuries. From the destruction of the church in La Jaudonnière in 1562 until its reconstruction in 1700, it served as the parish church. Today, the Ancienne Église Saint-Pierre de Pareds is in ruins; the surviving features include walls, dividing walls and a Gothic window.

Trails

On a stage of the GR 364 in the Vendée du Sud, the trails pass through chestnut forests and largely preserved bocage in La Caillère-Saint-Hilaire and La Jaudonnière. In the Vendée du Sud, the GR 364 also makes it possible to discover the sunken lanes of La Caillère-Saint-Hilaire and La Jaudonnière during a 24 km-long stage.

The Boucle des Vergers, designated as a Vendée-Vélo route, is a 33 km-long circular route that passes through the municipalities of Saint-Martin-Lars-en-Sainte-Hermine, La Caillère-Saint-Hilaire and La Jaudonnière. La Jaudonnière has hiking trails suitable for walkers, cyclists and horse riders.

Transport History

The former Vouvant-Cezais–Chantonnay railway line ran through La Jaudonnière. La Jaudonnière-Pareds station was one of the two new stations on this line; the line opened for operation on 28 May 1900.
