Culture and History

The Église Saint-Hilaire was built in 1836 according to plans by the architect F. L. Liberge. It has been fully listed as a Monument historique since 8 October 2007. Local tradition connects this bridge with a legend about the devil, the Virgin Mary and a donkey.

Before the French Revolution, the parish of Saint-Hilaire-de-Loulay belonged to the Marches Franches of Poitou and Brittany. The Château de Bois-Corbeau in Saint-Hilaire-de-Loulay was built in the 19th century. In the middle of the 19th century, the estate was given a park with an orangery, two greenhouses and numerous agricultural buildings; at the same time, the château was extended.

On the Route L'Écornerie section, follow the Le Riaillé stream to the Maines Réunies and cross them via a footbridge. The Route Le Bois Noir begins at the car park by the church in Saint-Hilaire-de-Loulay, is marked in yellow and bears the number 10. There are walking paths in Pré Gestin.
