Culture and History

The church in Velluire is partially listed as a Monument historique; its apse was protected as a historic monument by decree of 26 December 1927. In the wider area of Le Poiré-sur-Velluire, the façades and roofs of the Château du Chastellier Barlot have been listed as a historic monument since 23 September 1977.

The railway station in Velluire was part of the municipality’s transformation in the 19th century. The Hutte du Cul-des-Mottes is considered to be the last remaining small farm on the Velluire towpath.

An intricately engraved torc made of solid gold, found in the Massigny quarries, is cited as evidence of Velluire’s strong Celtic settlement. The Massigny quarries had been known for centuries for their white stone, which was used for numerous private homes and public buildings.

Local

La Gautronnette in Velluire offers local specialities such as brioche, gâche and several galettes, including Brioche de la Mariée, Galette Angélique Pur Beurre and Galette de l’Aunis. The Guinguette La Belle Verte welcomes visitors for convivial evenings on the banks of the Vendée near the Hutte de Velluire.
