The foundations of the Notre-Dame de l’Assomption church in Bouin date back to the 12th century. Visitors can also discover historic houses and picturesque lanes.
Port du Bec is located at the mouth of the Étier du Dain, extends across Bouin and Beauvoir-sur-Mer, and is the largest of Bouin’s four oyster ports. Because of its pontoons supported by wooden piles, it is nicknamed “Port chinois”: their interwoven pattern is reminiscent of the ports of the China Seas.

Culinary delights
The oysters of Bouin Island officially belong to the group of “Sites Remarquables du Goût”. Today, there are around 180 production facilities on a new 200-hectare polder area in Bouin. They are mainly used for oyster farming, as well as for other forms of marine or aquaculture.
La Spirulinerie produces organic, traditionally made spirulina in the Vendée, in the Marais Breton Vendéen. Visitors are welcome to tour the facility and farm shop, where they can learn about the production process and the expertise involved.
Nature
The “Du Port du Collet au Port des Champs” cycle route starts in Bouin and ends in Bouin. It is marked as a green-and-white “Vendée Vélo” route and is an easy, 11 km cycle tour for recreational cycling, taking one hour.
Along this route, visitors are accompanied by vast areas shaped by sea spray, oyster-farming operations, and unspoilt nature. The route reveals an unusual coastal landscape where people and the sea live side by side.
The “Boucle des marais et des digues de Bouin” route leads through the Marais Breton Vendéen, a protected Natura 2000 area and a vast landscape where visitors can observe numerous bird species.

In Bouin, SNCF coach route 13 operates between Nantes and Noirmoutier. The coach has space for six bicycles.
