The Maison du Maître de Digues is located in the village. As an open-air museum, it presents the history and landscapes of the Marais Poitevin through the lives of the dike master and the Huttiers. It is housed in the former official residence of the dike master; the tour includes a bakehouse, a barn and a living room, which illustrate the everyday life of former residents. The tour lasts 45 minutes.

Geographical setting
Chaillé-les-Marais is located in the drained marshland of the Marais Poitevin in southern Vendée. The village originally developed as the limestone island of Île Carriot in the former Golfe des Pictons.

The Coteau calcaire is a 90-are area that has been protected since 1988 by a prefectural order protecting a biotope. Walks are permitted there.
History
The topography of ÃŽle Carriot suggests the existence of a port dating back to Roman times. The Eglise Ste Marie Madeleine was rebuilt in 1866 in the neo-Gothic style on foundations dating from the 13th century, after it had been burned down during the Wars of Religion.
Hiking
Les Falaises is a very easy 6.3-km circular hiking trail starting in Chaillé-les-Marais. The walk offers views of the drained marshland and leads to local animals and plants. The circular route also leads to Îlot de Chaillezais, a medieval motte associated with an original castle.
Local life
The Marché d’été takes place on Tuesdays in July and August from 7:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. on the terrace of the Salle du Pré vert. It offers fresh or prepared products from producers in the Marais poitevin, local handicrafts and on-site refreshments.
