Culture and History

The Menhir dit des Petites Jaunières was placed under protection as a historic monument on December 3, 1980. The Menhir dit des Petites Jaunières in La Brunière near Le Givre is a Neolithic monument.

The Église Saint-Martin du Givre is dedicated to Saint Martin of Vertou; his image is depicted in the central choir window.

The «Terres Mégalithes» program included Le Givre as one of ten municipalities in which 17 monuments were enhanced along circular routes totaling 63 km.

The original Château de la Brunière, located in the village of «La Brunière», was built around the 13th century. A new Renaissance building was later constructed at the rear on the ruins of the older structure. The future King Henri IV spent one night at the Château de la Brunière before he became king.

The Château de la Brunière has been classified as a historic monument since 1984, is privately owned, and is open on Heritage Days.

Landscape

In Le Givre, trails lead through forests and meadows as well as through the municipality’s numerous villages.

The signposted «Circuit Le Givre» circular hiking trail is 6.7 km long and takes approximately 1 hour and 45 minutes. It starts and ends at the Place de l’Église. The route leads to a viewpoint offering a panorama of the villages of Les Chaponnières and Le Givre as well as the surrounding area.

Cycling

The «Ça roule dans le bocage» cycling route is 44.7 km long and can be ridden in loops of 18 km and 8 km. Around 15 information boards along the cycling route provide information about significant sites in the region, including the sunken lanes of Le Givre.

Geographical Location

In the south of the municipality of Le Givre, departmental roads intersect, connecting La Roche-sur-Yon with La Tranche-sur-Mer and Luçon with Les Sables; as a result, these four towns are less than 30 minutes away.
