Landscape and Trails

The western part of the La Tranche-sur-Mer area is covered along the coast by a forest of maritime pines and holm oaks. The forest is open to the public and is suitable for numerous outdoor activities.

La Tranche-sur-Mer has more than 50 km of cycle paths, as well as Vélorue sections where cars do not have priority. In addition, the La Tranche-sur-Mer tourist office offers four circular cycling routes ranging from 5.5 to 19 km. They pass through marshland, along beaches, through the forest and through various neighbourhoods of the resort.

Culture and History

The Phare du Grouin was built in 1866. After the previous structure was destroyed by an explosion in 1944, a new lighthouse was put into operation in 1953.

The present-day Saint-Nicolas Church was built in 1868 and houses a pipe organ.

The fish lock at Pointe du Grouin du Cou is listed as part of Vendée's maritime heritage. Its restoration now enables the biological functioning of the tidal area, its increasing biodiversity and its role in protecting the coast to be studied. The restoration also serves to inform and raise public awareness of the sensitivity of marine and coastal habitats.

Discoveries

Parc des Floralies is open to the public all year round. The park has an educational beehive where visitors can discover the life of bees. Visitors can also see donkeys, Poitou donkeys and goats.
