Vezot: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Vezot combines traces of history with paths through the Saosnois region. The village’s history includes the Romanesque Church of Saint-Denis, a former railway station and the remains of a château; at the same time, there are several paths through the municipality and its predominantly agricultural surroundings.

Culture

The Romanesque Church of Saint-Denis in Vezot was built in the 11th century and extended in the 13th century. Its present-day configuration dates from this period. The church also features frescoes that rank among the most significant in the Saosnois region due to their artistic interest.

The “Voie Verte en poésie” begins in the municipality, a poetic trail with 15 panels. The installation was designed by five classes from nursery and primary schools in the municipalities crossed by the Voie Verte.

Activities

The Voie Verte N°3 circular route in Vezot is an easy 6.5 km hiking trail with a stated duration of around two hours. It begins at Vezot’s former railway station, which was built at the end of the 19th century. Along the route, visitors can see various poems written by schoolchildren; the hiking trail also follows the Roman road.

The former Château de la Cour can also be seen along the circular route. It comprises a tithe barn, a former gateway and a defensive tower; these three structures have been classified as historic monuments since 7 February 1994.

The Voie Verte Maine Saosnois runs for 12.2 km along a former railway line between Mamers and Les Mées and can be used on foot or by bicycle. The “Acacia” hiking trail begins at Vezot Town Hall, is a 20 km circular route and leads from Vezot through the Saosnois countryside. It is considered a moderately difficult walking route with a stated duration of four hours.

Landscape

The Voie Verte du Saosnois offers views of Vezot and the extensive agricultural plain surrounding it. At every crossing of this Voie Verte, there are barriers that cyclists and wheelchair users can pass through without difficulty.
