Culture and History
The Église Sainte-Madeleine is an example of religious architecture in Anjou Bleu and towers over the town of Segré and the Oudon. It was rebuilt between 1835 and 1842 by the architect Dellêtre on the site of the dilapidated previous building; between 1890 and 1896, it was extended by the Angevin architect Auguste Beignet.
At the Médiathèque at Espace Saint-Exupéry, 39 rue Charles de Gaulle in Segré, the Micro-Folie has been established as a digital museum. It is supported by the French Ministry of Culture, coordinated by La Villette and brings together several areas and offerings to discover art and cultural heritage in a different way. The Micro-Folie also includes a virtual reality area.
Markets in the Town Centre
Every Wednesday morning, a market selling food and manufactured goods takes place in Segré town centre on Place Aristide Briand. Every Saturday morning, an exclusively producer-supplied food market follows on Place de la République.
Nature along the Oudon
The Parc de la Vallée de l’Oudon forms the green centre of Segré, is just a few steps from the town centre, follows the Oudon and its meanders, and covers around ten hectares. Along the towpath, walkers can observe numerous species in the Oudon or above the riverside vegetation; the valley is particularly suitable for nature walks and discovering biodiversity. The Parc de la Vallée de l’Oudon is designated as an LPO Refuge and is particularly suitable for birdwatching.
Routes and Exploration
The 4.8-kilometre historic town walk in Segré leads through the former mining town from its foundation to the present day. Information panels provide additional details about the town’s history.
The Parcours d’orientation de la Vallée de l’Oudon orienteering course in Segré comprises 30 hidden markers. The aim is to find as many as possible using points of reference from four thematic areas: people and stone, vegetation, terrain and water.
The Circuit de la Planchette starts at the church of Saint-Aubin-du-Pavoil and leads to one of the highest points in the area around Segré. Along the way, visitors can explore the Angevin landscape and sunken lanes.
