La Rouxière is characterised by a predominantly agricultural landscape of meadows and arable land. In addition, there is a medium-dense to dense bocage hedgerow network with a total of 124 kilometres of hedgerows. Nature
The Ruisseau de la Saugère shapes the natural landscape of La Rouxière and serves as a visual reference point for the town centre. It runs through the Vallon de la Saugère, a small wooded valley. The Circuit du moulin de Peltré is 8.6 kilometres long, passes through sunken lanes and along bocage hedgerows, and extends to the Étang Corbin, where hikers can take a break on its banks.
Hiking Trails
The Circuit de la Cour is one of the two main hiking trails in La Rouxière and is 3.5 kilometres long. It is listed in the departmental plan for walking and hiking trails and is connected to other footpaths. The Circuit de Châteaufromont is a rural, family-friendly hiking trail through La Rouxière.
History and Culture
The Gautellerie coal mine operated from 1896 to 1911; in 1900, 200 people were employed there. The Gautellerie mining site is part of the Route du Charbon. A chimney and its base, the shaft entrance, workers’ accommodation, administrative buildings, an infirmary and a stable have been preserved there.
The neo-Gothic church of La Rouxière was built between 1896 and 1898 from stones extracted from a quarry located within the municipality, which was later converted into a water reservoir. At La Cour, all that remains of the former Château Fromont châtellenie, a significant fortress of the former Duchy of Brittany, is the visible medieval motte.
Getting Around
In the Pays d’Ancenis and the neighbouring municipalities, Aléop à la demande offers shared demand-responsive transport for individual local journeys when regular services are unavailable. Following prior reservation with the relevant town hall, a taxi picks passengers up at home. The delegated municipality of La Rouxière received a second flower in 2016.
