Culture

The Église Saint-Eustache has been listed as a historic monument since 1942. Its 54-metre-high bell tower is considered the tallest slate-roofed church tower in France. The church is built of brick and stone on a sandstone base, has the floor plan of a Latin cross and ends in a polygonal apse.

The history of the area also includes the royal manor house: it was destroyed in 1541 before Charles IX had it replaced by the Château de Richebourg in 1560. When the Château de Richebourg was partially demolished in 1826, the entrance portal, a watchtower and a service building remained. The complex of the Ferme de La Feuillie is also documented; it has been listed in the Inventaire général du patrimoine culturel since 1943.

Nature

In the forest clearing of La Feuillie, 40 percent of the land is used as meadows, where agricultural activities continue. The Forêt domaniale de Lyons covers 10,700 hectares, consists predominantly of beech trees and has a circumference of around 360 kilometres. It is described as the largest forest area in Normandy.

The municipality of La Feuillie is affected by the Natura 2000 site “Pays de Bray-Cuestas Nord et Sud” (FR2300133), which is designated as a special conservation area under the European Habitats Directive.

Activities

Les Grands Genêts is a 19.2-kilometre hiking route in La Feuillie with a stated walking time of five hours. It passes through varied landscapes in the Forêt de Lyons and the plains, and runs through the hamlet of Richebourg, which was named after a former château demolished in 1826.

The Écurie de la Forêt de Lyons is located in an authentic 19th-century Bray farm. Its introductory riding programme consists of three two-hour modules: approaching the horse, balance training and an outdoor ride. Beginners and less experienced riders can also take walking-pace rides on a secure outdoor circuit.
