Eu: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

The Château d’Eu was built in the 16th century by Henri de Lorraine, the third Duke of Guise. Since 1973, it has housed the Musée Louis-Philippe. The museum, France’s last royal residence, displays furniture, porcelain, gold- and silversmithing works, paintings, and historical memorabilia relating to the Princes of Orléans and the first Entente Cordiale.

When staying in Eu, the wish to rent a holiday apartment may be part of one’s own travel planning.

Culture

The Collégiale Notre-Dame et Saint-Laurent is considered an important site of Norman ecclesiastical architecture and is part of the Route des Abbayes de Normandie. The Chapelle du collège des jésuites, built at the beginning of the 17th century, is also part of the town’s historic heritage. Today, it is a cultural monument with an extensive programme of artistic events.

The Musée des Traditions Verrières d’Eu presents the history of glass from its origins to the present day, with a focus on regional glass-bottle production. During a visit or an introductory archaeology course, visitors can discover the remains of Briga, a small town from the 1st to 3rd century AD, and learn about the lives of its inhabitants.

Landscape

The site of the Chapelle Saint-Laurent offers a 360-degree panoramic view of the Bresle estuary and the three sister towns of Eu, Le Tréport, and Mers-les-Bains. It is freely accessible all year round. Around 10 May each year, the nine-day Saint-Laurent novena takes place, with a pilgrimage from the Collégiale to the Chapelle.

The park of the Château d’Eu covers just under 4 hectares. The Forêt d’Eu also contains the Sainte-Catherine viewpoint, which is suitable for picnics.

Nature

The Forêt indivise d’Eu is divided into four remarkable natural areas: la basse forêt d’Eu, les coteaux calcaires de la haute forêt d’Eu, les tourbières du Siège Madame, and les landes de Beaumont. Protected species are found in this forest, including ferns, orchids, and amphibians such as frogs and newts.
