History
In the centre of Goulet, at the place called La Butte du Four (plot no. 201, cadastral section D), a communal bakehouse stood where the roundabout is located today. In Les Routoirs du Marais, a municipal decree dated 11 February 1821 designated 22 flax retting pits and a 23rd site as a public washhouse.
Northwest of Goulet lies the Sainte-Marthe priory. It was founded in the 11th century and served as accommodation for monks sent by Troarn Abbey, who managed its lands and other property and provided religious services. The first castle southwest of Goulet was built in the 15th century by Pierre II d’Alençon.
Between 1059 and 1108, Goulet probably had two fisheries; at that time, monks established one of them on the Orne between the priory and Argentan.
