Saint-Pois lies along the 50-kilometre Route du Granit, which stretches along the Sée Valley. The village combines this geographical setting with paths, granite architecture, historic buildings and regional farming. Nature and Paths
Two named routes are available in the area for mountain biking: “À la découverte du Château de la Marquise” is a 4.5-kilometre mountain bike route starting in Saint-Pois. “Au contact du Granit Bleu” runs for 17 kilometres through Saint-Pois. This route passes through the granite-built village of Saint-Pois, whose granite is known as “Bleu de Vire”.
The “Le Papillon au fil de l'eau” hiking trail passes by washhouses and the remains of watercress gardens. It also runs through valleys with ponds and small springs. Saint-Pois offers impressive panoramic views over the Sée Valley.
Culture and History
The privately owned Château de Saint-Pois can be seen from the wooded areas, with its remarkable architecture. The château offers guided tours by prior reservation for pre-arranged groups of at least eight people. Themed tours are also held there as part of cultural events.
The Church of Saint-Louis houses a granite holy-water font and a 15th-century Pietà. Saint-Pois became an important centre for the extraction of “Bleu de Vire” granite at an early stage. The village has 19th-century washhouses.
Farm and Regional Products
Visitors are welcomed daily at Le Petit Saint-Poisien farm to discover the farm’s products and animals. Goat’s cheese is made on site there.
