The Chapelle Sainte-Barbe, together with the Manoir de Carnet, forms a Renaissance architectural ensemble. The chapel has a square floor plan with sides measuring 8 m, and houses polychrome statues from the 17th and 18th centuries. The Manoir de Carnet was rebuilt at the end of the 16th century and is located at the transition between Brittany and Normandy.

The Église Notre-Dame in Carnet houses the 14th-century polychrome limestone group “Sainte Anne et la Vierge”. The sculptural group has been classified as a protected monument since 22 July 1977. The church also has a bronze bell from 1762, which was listed as a protected monument on 8 February 1990.

Jean Guiton (1392–1460) was Lord of Carnet and captain of Saint-James in 1448; he also served under Joan of Arc alongside Thomas de La Paluelle. Bicycle races were held at a community festival in Carnet on Saturday, 25 July.

Nature

At Grand Margotin in Carnet, the one-hectare Étang de Margotin is a recreational area open to everyone in a peaceful, green setting. It offers the opportunity to fish for carp; a landscaped walking path runs around the pond.

Geographical location

The D311 departmental road connects Saint-James and Carnet over a length of 3.735 km. The pilgrimage route “Le Grand Chemin Montois” from Tours to Mont-Saint-Michel passes through the Commune Nouvelle de Saint-James.
